Alfredo Montenegro

Alfredo Montenegro, a Peruvian artist, has been passionate about creating art since childhood. He has always been captivated by shapes and colors, with his earliest memory of sketching being a red fire truck. This early love for art often served as a delightful distraction during his formative years. Alfredo has since transformed his passion into a profession, creating murals for local restaurants, residences, and various public projects.

He studied graphic design at the Peruvian Advertising Institute, where he graduated at the top of his class. Originally immigrating to the United States to pursue a career as a professional graphic designer, Alfredo’s love for painting led him to become a muralist in 2000. This transition began when a friend requested that he paint a mural in his baby’s nursery. Word of Alfredo’s talent quickly spread, and he has been in high demand for mural commissions ever since.

Alfredo has also delved into faux finishes and trompe l’œil techniques. His learning process has involved extensive reading, as well as hands-on experimentation through trial and error, which has significantly refined his skills. His approach to mural creation is notably distinct, even among expert muralists. While most artists rely on extensive planning, mathematical grids, and projected images, Alfredo prefers to sketch his designs freehand. He consults with clients for approval before bringing the sketches to life with paint. Remarkably, he rarely employs a spray gun, opting instead to use brushes for nearly all his work, and he mixes his own paint colors from primary hues.
